Away to Hornchurch

The Vets travelled to Harold Wood to play second from bottom side Hornchurch. The home side had a good win last week beating Hornminster 5-4 so we knew we must not take them lightly in our quest to be League Champions.

Bad traffic and the usual suspects turning up late we started the game with a different lineup to what Barry intended, however this didn’t disrupt our plans as we have a strong squad to pick from.

After playing and beating the top two sides in the last two games this was a different challenge with Hornchurch not really pushing us so we had to make it happen rather than soak up a load of pressure and work extremely hard to achieve a result. The first half was a little frustrating as we got a bit sloppy with passes going astray and players losing patience with each other. But eventually continued pressure led to a long ball from Sean being chipped over the goalkeeper’s head by Trevor Burton to make it 1-0.

The goal seemed to settle us down and we went onto score two further goals from Darren Foss and yes yet again Trevor Burton to make it 3-0 at half time. We knew we had won this game but the half time talk was to stay cool play our football and further goals would come and they did as Martin Treadway scored from a Suhail pass, a great team move led to top scorer Taju getting yet another goal. Our 6th was headed home by Darren Foss from Trevor Burton pinpoint cross and our 7th came from a Barry Smith goal bound shot that rebounded back for Suhail Butt to score with a nice headed goal to make the final score 7-0 and a vital 3 points. Back in the pub after the game we discovered that Old Parms had beaten league leaders Met Police, this means at the most we need a point in our last two games to win the League. Almost there but we must not take our foot off the gas and ensure we get the point we need in two weeks time against Sanders. Man of the Match: Trevor Burton. Report Kevin Whitworth
