Globe Rangers Friendly

Finally we manage to beat Globe Rangers with a 3 - 4 victory and a hatrick from new boy Martin Saggers.

The Vets had a friendly against local rivals Globe at the George White Sports Ground.

On the two previous occasions we have played Globe we have been defeated 4-0 so we new we were in for a tough

match.

We started the Ist half very strongly and good play by Trevor Burton gave Martyn Saggers the opportunity to make it 1-0 with a good strike.

We went further ahead when Kevin Whitworth,s through ball

put Martyn Saggers in the clear for him to calmly finish to put us 2-0 up. Manager Barry Smith made 4 charges towards the end of the Ist half and our opposition managed to nip a goal back when Gary Doodes punched the ball into the strikers face and the ball rebounded back into the net.

2-1 at half time again Barry made a couple of changes and then for a while we seem to lose the plot by conceding two silly goals. With about 20 minutes to go we made a big effort and Martyn Saggers got his hat trick with a fantastic right footed volley and then with time running out Taju made

it 4-3 with a good shot that hit the roof of the net.

Overall I believe we deserved to win and here were some good displays.

Defence was generally solid , the midfield worked hard and

the front players were very clinical.

Barry was happy after the game with the effort and the fact that we had beaten Globe at last after several attempts over the last few years.
